As 100 Million baby boomers will start hitting the age of 65 researchers are having a hard time figuring out how long we will live. It's interesting to think about, because if we live too long - we run out of money. If we die young we can't take it with you. It would be great if we could plan so that when the end comes - the bank account is zero.

The economic downturn seems to keep people working longer. Many baby boomers work past normal retirement age, and that is a good thing - for the economy. Maybe not so good for us who want to retire? Apparently there is a looming labor shortage in Canada and many other countries. By having boomers work longer - it seems to postpone the inevitable labor shortage.

Very interesting article in Maclean's today. It is scary to think about what state we are leaving. I hope our kids are smarter than we are. And elect smarter people to serve in the government. It's embarrassing actually. Please read the article, it's a great read.

Almost half of baby boomers think they won't have enough money to "retire" in the way they want to. So they are looking for ways to make some extra money without too much work. The objective at this stage is not to get rich, (that would be nice) but to reduce the money you draw from your retirement fund. So it lasts longer.

Newsflash: Baby Boomers are not like the Beatles song "When I'm Sixty-Four" written 40 years ago. Far from it. Several studies show that seniors are the fastest growing segment of entrepreneurs. You are not alone then... recent studies show that 22% of men over 65 and 14% of women are self-employed - that compares to only 7% for other age groups.

A survey by AARP a few years back revealed 80% of respondents planned to work beyond retirement age, and 17% of those planned to launch new businesses.
