Working after retirement

Tag Archives: baby boomers live longer

As 100 Million baby boomers will start hitting the age of 65 researchers are having a hard time figuring out how long we will live. It's interesting to think about, because if we live too long - we run out of money. If we die young we can't take it with you. It would be great if we could plan so that when the end comes - the bank account is zero.

Statistics show that at least one member of a 65-year old couple can expect to live another 23 years. To the age of 88. Of course, we all hope to live long as long as the living is good. I, like most people am starting to dread the thoughts of health issues putting a damper on my life style.

In 1900 the life expectancy was 49 years. (US numbers). Today it is 77.9 years.

So in the context of retirement entrepreneurs - we need to realize that we will live longer than we perhaps plan on. And hoping we can remain healthy so we can travel and have fun - worrying about running out of money is a big problem. So we either have to save, live frugally or figure out a way to increase our monthly income. Safely. Like I have mentioned before, over 60% of retirees now either work or operate some sort of business at 60+. Trick is to make it fun and earn some spending maoney at the same time.
